WHAT IS WATKINS?
Nestled in the Mississippi River Bluff town of Winona, MN., Watkins has been America’s pioneer in natural living since 1868. As America’s original natural apothecary manufacturer, Watkins uses only the finest natural ingredients in its diverse lines of personal care, home care, remedies and organic flavorings.
Committed to being America’s most trusted natural products company, Watkins adheres strictly to the same quality standards set forth by its founder J.R. Watkins. Its J.R. Watkins Natural Apothecary line of personal care contains only natural, environmentally friendly ingredients from renewable resources, avoiding chemicals like parabens, sulfates, phthalates and more and is one of very few lines to be certified by the Natural products Association.
Natural cleaners have also been a large part of its diverse product mix as far back as 1917, when the company first launched Natural Vegetable Oil Soap made with pure vegetable oils and no animal bi-products, fillers or colors. Almost a century ago its advertisements boasted “Just pure soap, that’s all”… and “Pure enough to eat!” As globally-minded as its customers, Watkins now aims to make household chores a little easier with its newest line of J.R. Watkins Natural Home Care cleaning products. Made with refreshing lemon and lavender oils and highly effective plant derived surfactants, Watkins diverse line of cleaners are safe and effective for your home and your family.
Responsible manufacturing processes are as important as its commitment to providing natural, consumable items for everyday life. By utilizing gravity- fed filling, biodegradable packing materials, as well as strict recycling programs and much more, Watkins is devoted to leaving the smallest environmental footprint possible.
Since moving from Plainview, Minnesota to Winona in 1888, Watkins has consistently been one of the largest employers in Southeastern, Minnesota. It has remained a leader and responsible contributor to not only its local community in Minnesota but also to the world at large and continues to support educational, cultural and humanitarian efforts, including the United Way, Best Buddies, The 52nd Street Project and many other non-profit organizations dedicated to making the world a better place.
MY WATKINS STORY
I grew up with Watkins Products in our house. My mom swears by Watkins Vanilla Extract. I can’t tell you how many pecan pies I’ve eaten made with Watkins Vanilla. My dad always had Watkins White liniment around for his aching muscles. As I got older I too learned to appreciate the soothing quality of Watkins Liniment. Those weren’t the only products we used. Mom’s spices all came from Watkins. Seems like I even remember choking down some Watkins cough syrup a time or two.
We had a gentleman by the name of Charles, or “Watkins man”, who came around once a month in his white van to take our order and deliver products. This was long before the internet. In fact, the personal computer wasn’t even around yet. Charles had cerebral palsy but he was able to earn a living by selling Watkins products door to door. After many years of Charles pulling in the driveway with his white Watkins van, he stopped coming. We never had a card with any kind of number to get in touch with him, he just always showed up. I don’t know what happened. I assume the disease finally progressed enough to take away his driving ability, or he passed away. No one was there to take his place and Watkins soon vanished from our home.
Recently, I was searching for something to do part-time while I attend school full-time. I was hoping to find something to do at home on my own time. I came across a website that listed the top work at home businesses. Right at the top of the list (#2) was Watkins. I clicked the link and there was all of our old favorites. I did a little further research on exactly what is involved in becoming a “Watkins Man”. And quickly I realized this was what I was looking for. Not to mention I get to start buying my own favorite Watkins products again. I’ve already got a bottle of vanilla extract in hand and a standing order with my mom for a big ol’ pecan pie (pronounced southern: pea-can).
SO WHY BUY WATKINS PRODUCTS FROM ME
Well, why not? I realize you can buy some of this stuff at some of the big chain stores. But you can’t get it all. And you can’t get the personal service that you will get from me. You won’t get the personal service from Mr. Big Chain Store, like you’ll get from me. I’ll be happy to talk to you anytime about products, make recommendations. My wife and I really do use these products. They are of high quality and I know you’ll be satisfied. (Also, Mr. Big won’t hold your check until Friday when your paycheck hits your account…).
