Thanksgiving 2008
November 29, 2008 · 2 Comments
Happy belated Thanksgiving ya’ll! I hope everyone had a wonderful time and got their fill of turkey and dressing (yes I am from the south and it’s dressing not stuffing in this house). This was a great one for me, kind of a throw back if you will. The family got together and ate a ton, played games for hours, and laughed plenty. Overall a great day.
The following are my reflections on the day.
Things I did not like:
- I did not like the fact that my mom was not able to make her traditional cornbread dressing. The stroke she suffered earlier this year has robbed her of much of her sight and somewhat of the cognitive ability to prepare it. I HATE that.
- While our immediate family had a wonderful time together, the rest of our family has become quite spread out and it is difficult to get them all together… even on holidays. I really miss the Thanksgiving dinners at my grandmothers house when all the aunts, uncles, and cousins were present and accounted for. I know this is part of the world we live in today and part of growing older, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Things I liked:
(The did not like list was fairly short. This list is a bit longer.)
- I LOVED the fact that my mom was here to have another Thanksgiving with us. She’s had a rough two years; heart attack, 4 fused vertebrae in her neck, stroke, but she has taken the punches and kept going. She is amazing.
- Dad filled in admirably with the cornbread dressing
- I loved seeing my two girls (six and four) sit down and play Uno and Dominoes with the grown-ups. They each won a hand of Uno and Hannah (6) plays dominoes like a pro. How did I get blessed with such smart children?
- Seeing my dad play Wii for four hours was great. I never knew how competitive he was.
- Homemade pecan pie…. Mmmm!
- Did I mention Cornbread Dressing yet? I think I ate 2lbs of it.
- I have an amazing wife who loves me and my family like her own.
I could go on, but as I am writing this the Ga. Tech/UGA game is kicking off. I gotta go and watch as much as I can stand. So far it’s not looking good for my Jackets.
