In a recent post, I stated, “I do not put my Faith in any government. So no matter what government I am governed by, I’ll be ok”.

David Putman said it much better than I in his post: Obama or McCain

Puppy Shopping

Ok this is a surprise for my daughters, so not a word.

My girls have been hounding (pardon the pun) for a dog for the longest time now.  Once I was laid off, I told them they would have to wait until daddy got a job.  Then daddy decided to go back to school first.  Hannah’s reply to this news: “Awww, we’re never going to get a dog!”.

A friend of mine just had a litter of Rat Terrier puppies.  Rat Terriers are like a laid back version of a Jack Russell Terrier. At least that’s what I’ve been told.  After much deliberation Kari and I have decided this would be a good chance to go ahead and get the girls one of these puppies and not make them wait another three years or so.

Tonight we visited the new pups:

Now here’s a question I wasn’t giving any consideration until tonight.  Should we get two? Hannah fell in love with a little boy puppy.  Hailey fell in love with a little girl puppy.  We can’t really afford two. But how do I tell one that they don’t get to choose a pup.  It’s my fault.  They don’t even know they are getting one, so I didn’t bother to tell them ahead of time, “We’re only getting one. You need to agree on one”.

This is going to be for Christmas. So I guess that gives me some time to make some extra $$.

I got a date with a hot blonde and a BCS ranked team!

October 21, 2008 · 2 Comments

I am so happy today I can barely stand it!  This morning I was told that if I could make it to a certain restaurant in town by 11am they were giving away tickets to this Saturday’s Georgia Tech vs. Virginia game.  I am a huge Georgia Tech football fan, but I have never been to a game.  I don’t really know why.  I’ve lived in and around Atlanta my entire life.  I guess it was just one of those things I’ve always meant to do, but have yet to do it.  It is one of the few sporting events I have yet to see live.  I’ve been a season ticket holder to the local NFL team here, as well as our brief minor league hockey team.  I’ve been to NASCAR races. I’ve seen the PGA championship live. I’ve seen Olympic baseball live. I’ve seen Arena Football. I’ve even seen professional soccer, not the current version but the old North American Soccer League. Yes I did see Pele play at the old Fulton County Stadium.  But I have never seen a college football game. So anyway, I got the tickets! I got the next to last pair given away.

So I can’t wait until Saturday.  I get to see something I’ve never seen before.  My Jackets, who nobody (including me) expected much success this year, are ranked 18th in the BCS poll! I get to go and eat some of my favorite food at the Varsity: 2 Chili Cheese Dogs, Onion Rings (dripping with grease!), and a Varsity Orange. But the best part of the day will be spending it with my wonderful wife.  Our dates are too few and too far in between these days.  I can’t wait!

Grace is Gone

October 17, 2008 · 4 Comments

John Cusack has always been one of my favorite actors.  From those 80’s favorites like, “Better Off Dead” (one of my all time favorites) to “Gross Point Blank” and more recently “The Martian Child”.  But Somehow this one slipped by me until last night.  This, in my humble opinion, is probably the best performance I have ever seen from him.  I wouldn’t really call this a “feel good” movie.  I’m not sure I will ever watch it again. But I am very glad I watched it. Click on the poster and it will take you to the movie’s site and you can veiw the trailer and read better reviews than mine.  I highly recommend this movie.  I also highly recommend you watch with a box of tissues.

I Stopped by the Unemployment Office Today

October 14, 2008 · 2 Comments

I had to drop of some paperwork at the unemployment office today and I was shocked at the amount of people there today.  It was the most I’ve seen since I’ve been laid off (June 18, 2008).  I wish I had my camera to show you what I’m talking about.  I was in a hurry to make a class so I didn’t have time to chat with anyone.  A local plant must have had a lay off.  I saw some familiar looks in peoples eyes today.  I felt bad for those people.  Many of them looked to be older than me.  How scary to be that old and having to start over.

I am not making any more political post for a while.  It just gets mine and other’s blood pressure up.  All I am going to say is when considering your choices for this election, and I’m not just talking about the Presidential candidates either. Think about who you feel has a better plan for creating jobs in this country.  I know that every candidate says that they do. And I know that depending on values many agree with each.  But all I’m asking is, to really search inside and vote for who you feel better represents your values and beliefs and go vote.  Don’t think that your candidate doesn’t have a chance so, “Why bother?”.  You might be surprised at the outcome.  One of the greatest things about our country is our free elections.  A LOT have died to give us this freedom.  The absolute least we can do is go vote.

And another thing…  everyone needs to calm down a bit.  It seems like every four years the divide in this country gets bigger and bigger along political party lines.  And the media coverage gets more and more intense.  Listen, if your candidate loses, guess what?  The sun will still rise tomorrow. Life will go on.  True it may be a little tougher for you, or maybe better, but life will go on.  Hey, I do not put my Faith in any government.  So no matter what government I am governed by, I’ll be ok.
