The Life and Times of Brad Bobo

It’s official

Well…. It’s official.  I got the news yesterday.  LAYOFFS comming in the next 30 days.  My name wasn’t specifically called out, but I sat in a room with all the other managers and had the president of our company tell us, “If you’ve got something esle you can do, I would go ahead and do it”.  Nice huh?  If it were only that easy.  You see, I’ve been quietly looking for another job since the beginning of this year.  Not so quietly the past two months.  Unfortunately things are really tough in the job market these days. I don’t care if we are or aren’t in a “recession”, its ugly out there.  I have never in my adult life been unemployed.  From the time I was 15 years old and my dad walked in my room at noon, woke me up and said, “Get up! I just got you a job!”, I’ve been working.  I’ve been pretty niave about the whole thing.  Two months ago I felt sure I would have a job by now.  I got several interviews right away… followed by one rejection letter, a couple of no replies to my follow ups.  I’m also hearing phrases like: “Hiring freeze”, “Head count freeze” (which means they won’t add any new heads just replace ones that leave), “That position is being re-evaluated” (which means they have changed their mind and aren’t going to hire anyone for it).  So, I’ve got 30 days (or less) to find something, or I’m going to be another statistic pushing us to that much debated recession.

That’s a tough feeling. Especially for us “providers”. It is a lot of pressure to handle by yourself, I am pretty sure you have a pretty strong group of people keeping you strong. Don’t lose your focus and faith during this trying time. Please try to remember that there are others thinking and saying a prayer or two for you.
