My friend had a biopsy done on one of his lymph nodes at the base of his neck. Everything went well. The doctor got a good enough sample, so he did not have to go into his chest as we feared. It was sent to the lab for testing and the rusults will come in a few days. Continued prayers are appreciated. My friend was in good spirits and feeling good except for the huge bandage on the side of his neck.
While I was talking to him on the phone, his 4 year old son came in and saw his dad for the first time. This is what I heard through the phone….
I’m not liking what I’m hearing so far. Everywhere I look, the consensus seems to be that the Falcons are going to take QB Matt Ryan. I think this will be a mistake. Not that I think he is a bust, but to go to a team that has no offensive line, no running game yet (I like the addition of Michael Turner, but still no line to block for him), mediocre receivers…. it brings back memories of Tim Couch, David Carr, Vinny Testeverde. Testeverde went on to have a good career, but it took about 5 years to get over the shell-shock of the Tampa experience.
Please don’t do it. Take Glenn Dorsey. If he’s not there trade down. There are so many needs to fill, we can take all the picks we can get
I am as exited tonight as a kid on Christmas Eve…. it’s NFL Draft Eve!! Especially this year, my Falcons are sitting pretty with 11 picks, 6 in the first 3 rounds. We got a new coach (who’s a real football coach) and a new GM picked from the cream of the crop organizations. So I am optimistic about tomorrow. Of course I’ve been optimistic before, but this time I know we are headed in the right direction.
There has been a lot of debate about what the Falcons should do with the 3rd pick overall. In my humble, non expert opinion, we take Glenn Dorsey if he is still available, if he ain’t there, trade down.
Finally! I reached the summit of Sawnee Mountain. This expedition was long, and difficult, and fraught with danger…. FRAUGHT I SAY!! (Those of you who have seen Lion King 1 1/2 will get that. Uncle Max was a riot… “Meerkats, feared by no one, eaten by all”) Okay sorry, back to my post.
I met a good friend of mine over there today and I finally finished the trail to the top of the mountain. I had tried previously with Hannah, but she tired before we made it to the top and I had to carry her back down the mountain.
Today was a beautiful clear day. The view was spectacular. I learned another of life’s lessons today… make sure you have good boots before you go hiking. Mine are 10 years old and worn out. My dogs are really barking tonight. Pinkie toe blisters… OUCH!!
A few views from the top:
We also came across the old mine shaft I told you about yesterday
Today was a good day, and I needed one. I’ve had a particularly bad week capped off with a really bad day yesterday, so I was due for a good one. Kari and I started the day off volunteering at Rethink Money. Something I am very passionate about and I love being a part of changing peoples live for the better. Hey, if this is an area of your life that you feel like your losing the battle, please go and visit Casey Graham’s blog. Or email him at cgraham@rethinkmoney.org , it may be that Rethink Money is coming to an area near you soon. If not, maybe you can set it up.
After the class we came home for some lunch and played outside for a bit… beautiful day after a rainy morning. Then we decided to go to the park for a while. Sawnee Mountain Preserve One of my favorite parks. It’s got it all…. secluded, quiet, hiking trails, history, nature. A little side note… many years ago when this area was still just a gravel mountain road, me and my two best friends were doing some exploring on this mountain when we came across an old abandoned mining shaft (we didn’t know that at the time, we thought we had discovered a cave). Being the idiots we were, we went in. It didn’t go very far before it dead ended. Since we had found a cool new hangout, we thought we would build a fire and stay a while…. just long enough for the shaft to fill with smoke and drive us out coughing and choking from smoke inhilatition. Real brain surgeons we were!
Ok, back to our day. We left the park and went to splurge on some ice cream… Bruster’s, ridiculously expensive, but oh so good. From there we headed over to our friends house to hang out for a while. (Oh yeah, he happens to be one of the idiots with me in the cave.) We had a great time playing cards on the deck while the kids played in the backyard.
I had a particularly bad day today. Nothing happened to me, but a very dear friend of mine got some really bad news today from a doctor. The kind of news nobody wants to ever hear their doctor tell them….
“I believe you have cancer. Your white blood cell count in abnormal and you have this knot at the base of your neck that should not be there.”
My friend is going in for more tests on Monday to see if they can determine exactly what type of cancer he has and if in fact it is in his lymph nodes. I really don’t know if I should be writing about this… I’ve been at a loss for words all day.
Bogosphere pals, if you pray, please say one for my friend. He is only 34 years old and has a wife and 3 children who depend on their daddy. I have worked side by side with him for the last ten years and I can say he is a class act… one of the truly good guys.
