New Pic of the Atlanta Tornado

March 19, 2008 · 1 Comment

This is an amazing picture!  Look to the right and you can see the tornado coming down off the rear of the Super Cell, almost like a tail.

Daddy’s Night

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Last night was Daddy’s night at Hannah’s school.  This was the third one I’ve been to with her, and I think it was probably the best one yet.  Her class put on a hoedown for us dads.

We also had to show off our calf roping, pony racing, potato sack racing, and square dancing skills.  Here are some of the highlights of the night.

(sorry no pics of me in action… Hannah is still working on her action shots)

A Beautiful Scene…

March 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I was sitting in a park close to my office reading, as I often do on my lunch hour.  I noticed a mom and a young boy making their way to the middle of the middle of the park with a kite.  The boy was beside himself with excitement. I watched them for a few minutes trying to get their kite up in the air.  I was touched by this scene.  I began to thank God for this mom and her son.  A mom that took time out of her busy day (All moms days are busy), to take her son to the park to fly a kite.  The kite flying thing wasn’t working out so well though.  I noticed mom making her way back to the car to retrieve what appeared to be kite flying instructions.  She and the boy consulted the piece of paper and then attempted once more to get the kite airborne.

I closed my eyes and said, “Lord, bring some wind and lift this boys kite high into the air”. Before I could even open my eyes, I heard the wind rustling the leaves in the trees around me.  I opened my eyes to see the kite taking flight.  I smiled and chuckled to myself, looked up and said, “Thanks Dad!”.  I sat back and watched this mom and son fly their kite for the remainder of my lunch.

Now I don’t know if my prayer had anything to do with this boy and his kite, but I like to think so.  I know God has a lot on his plate running the universe and all.  But I think he was touched as I was by this scene and stepped in to make it a memorable one for the boy and his mom.

Later,

Brad

Scary Day in Georgia

March 16, 2008 · 1 Comment

You may have seen some coverage on the news…  Georgia got hammered yesterday with tornados.   Downtown Atlanta took two direct hits.  Some historic buildings suffered some heavy damage.  The Georgia Dome and the World Congress Center also got hit pretty hard.  I am amazed by the advanced technology they have now to project the path of these storms.  I sat and watched a tornado come across the Alabama-Georgia line and then they counted down counties and then the streets in the path until I couldn’t watch any more… I had to gather up the girls and into our closet we went, pillows and blankets in hand.  I told the girls stories so they would not since the fear I was feeling deep inside. I was talking and praying inside all at the same time. Truly a helpless feeling knowing that a storm that had already killed two people a few counties to the west of us, was now bearing down on us.  Thankfully it touched down within 5 miles, but we were spared.

Check out my buddy Paul Peterson’s blog for some pictures.  I guess not being from around here, he didn’t understand when they say seek shelter…. that doesn’t mean, grab your camera and go outside ;-)

 Later,

Brad

Question for my blogosphere pals

March 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

Those of you who know me, know I have a bad bad.  I have already had one surgery and I am facing another.  My bad back makes it difficult for me to exercise with out suffering through some pretty intense pain.   The result has been that I just don’t exercise, which has resulted in some extra poundage around the old midsection.  Which guess what… that’s not good for my bad lower back either.  So I told my doctor about my dilemma, and he suggested a stationary exercise bike for a low impact workout to shed the bothersome pounds.  According to this article, he’s right.

I went shopping for one yesterday and good grief,  I had no idea there were so many different kinds and brands.  So here is my question.  Does anyone have any experience with these things, and if so can you recommend a good one?  I have looked at a few on the web.  I read the reviews and one person will love it, while another says it was a waste of money.  I hate wasting money.  So if anyone has some suggestion, please let me hear them.  I am looking to spend around $500 or less.  Less would be great, but I don’t want to go too cheap on quality.

 Thanks,

Brad
